Best Old-School Burgers

How do the Rock Burgers get that distinctively beefy, grilled-outdoors flavor? First, they're grilled over live flames; you can even see the grill marks. And second, owner Joe Mayernik gets his beef fresh daily from Eastern Market in a custom grind designed for cooking over fire. We liked the home-style look of the hand-formed patties, the crisp shredded lettuce, the bite of hot peppers, the soft sesame bun and the juiciness of that beef. Tastes great medium rare. "This burger rocks -- value, value, value," customer Mike Wetzel wrote. Nice-looking place, too. Hamburger, $3.95; with lettuce, tomato and cheese, $4.55.
